It's about time! It would be okay if they built one in my backyard. I wish they would. Maybe I could get a job! Seriously, we need about 10 more.
@honda0105: I know what you mean. They capped all the wells where my parents live. Not because they were not producing, but because they didn't make enough profit to suit them.

taximom: there are lots of wells that are capped. The government doesn't initiate new drilling, Pig Oil companies do.

Interesting, well-hidden, knowledge. It would be interesting to find out how these expansions play into gas prices, and if they're a factor when the government takes steps to begin new drilling sites.

There was a local college whose hockey team was incredibly popular, but the college president hated the sport because it was barbaric or something. So she retained one ticket for every game, never used it, and claimed (technically truthfully) that hockey games were never completely sold out (even though it was only her ticket that wasn't sold and the waiting list was gargantuan). This claim allowed her to cut funding to the hockey program. Technicalities are why the world sucks. Good news on the new refinery - keep it coming, Texas!

'New refinery' (expanded) at Port Arthur, Texas to process Canadian and US crude oil to export fuel to the world market? No reduction of fuel prices at the pump but higher profits for Big Oil. Barry will support natural gas and oil production for sale on the world market to pay for his ‘spending gone wild’ addiction. The US ‘oil and natural gas resources’ belong to the citizens of this country and are to be used by those same citizens! Speculators, manipulators and the banks continue to unfairly and unjustly make the driving public pay higher prices at the pump for their benefit. Whatever the size or shape of the vehicle, Produce and ‘Drive’ vehicles with high MPG, are very reliable, have a ‘reasonable’ cost and a good ‘value’ for the money. Consider using other forms of less expensive transportation to lower your cost, if possible. The price of fuel at the pump is too high! 12/22/2012!

The wealthy people in this country aren't destroying the middle class. Let's see the last time the Democrats decided that they needed to penalize the oil companies they passed (President Carter) a windfall profit tax. That tax didn't even come close to bringing in the amount of money which they thought it would and many believe it increased our dependence on foreign oil. President Reagan killed the tax.
Tea Party puppets...need to get off those Democrat talking points.

Keystone is irrelevant. The US. is globally the 3rd large producer of crude and predicted to be #1 in the world by year 2017. The US has other pipelines and othe means of moving crude to refineries. It is the oil companies that are causing the backup. Know that the U.S. is currently a global supplier of refined oil. Export refineries are profiting highly from importing and refining crude from countries like Mexico and Brazil and exporting it back out to them. Our domestic backup storage of crude is like money sitting in the bank to them. Canadian sand tar sludge is no advantage for US consumers. It would just just create more backup of our domestic crude if refineries got devoted to refining the tar sands oil. With current tax exemptions in place, it would only be refined domestically then exported while leaving the U.S. with the hazardous risk of transporting it and polluting the country with the high toxic emissions caused during refining.

Lets talk about the Mystery gas tax!! Gas Buddy . com list the gas tax rate for all 50 states and the district of columbia ,ie , Washington DC. WE all thought that everyone paid 18.4 cents per gallon in federal gas taxes!! Not! Gb list three columns of taxes!! 1) gas tax/g 2) diesel tax/ g and 3) other tax/ g taxes!!------When you add column 1and 3 you get the total tax for a gallon of gas in that state!! ---WE Find Connecticut with the highest gas tax of 51.9 cents per gallon and Alaska the lowest at 8 cents per gallon!! WE find Missouri;17.3,Oklahoma 17.0, South Carolina16.8,New jersey 14.0 and Wyoming 14.0 joining Alaska with a gas tax below what we all thought every one paid to the Federal government!!-----The next highest states to Conn. are New York 50.5, Illinois 50.6, California 50.5 Hawaii 49.4 Michigan 43,7 and Indiana 43.6!! Most of these taxes have been in place for a number of years!! --The tax affects the price of gas ,but is not an expense to Big Oil as it is a pass through tax paid by the consumer!! --IN Michigan we found that our 6% sales tax doesn't change the revenue that our state treasury receives on the 20th of the month from the Big Oil cartel. In fact the revenue has not changed for a number of years!! One would believe that as gas goes over $4.00 per gallon, the 24cent in sales tax would have our road fund rolling in money!! Big Oil controls the amount of money each state receives and after that amount is generated, Big Oil keeps all the money generated per gallon of gas!!

Check your facts. The CONTROLLING PARTY in Washington tried to pass a regulation to not allow oil imported through the Keystone Xl pipeline to be refined & exported out of the Gulf Coast Refineries. They could have cared less if US OIL WAS EXPORTED OR IF DIESEL WAS REFINED FROM US OIL & EXPORTED THE SAME AS IT HAS BEEN. Their only interest was purely Political Propaganda. If they wanted to help US gasoline & diesel prices all they had to do was put a stiff Export tax on oil & any distillates; or RESTRICT ALL US OIL & DISTILLATES from Export as long as we were importing the same thing. So why did they only try to regulate oil from keystone? More Political bs Tx, to appear to be doing something, when they aren't!
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keystone_Pipeline
This refinery was built near the distribution source & shipping locations for obvious business reasons. Same reason the Eastern refineries are closing. If the party controlling Washington Hadn't stalled the Keystone Xl for going on 2 yrs. they not only were bringing in Canadian Oil but were going to pick up additional US oil in the Midwest and had a pipeline leg going East also. Try reading the Truth about the Keystone Xl & it's 12 different tracks offered. Six (6) of which completely avoided the Environmental area the alleged environmentalist were concerned about. That was just a propaganda excuse to stall. The Current Leadership has said from the beginning they wanted high gas prices to force us to use alternate more expensive energy to push their agenda. They didn't care if we could afford to pay higher prices, or the Economy could stand it. Their ideology was & continues to be the END justifies the MEANS. Even if it means the collapse of the USA.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keystone_Pipeline
Also, if they retain Control their Policy will continue to be exactly the same, regardless of what lies they expound. That is continued Tax breaks & Federal Grants with our taxes for Useless Ethanol at even higher 15% (E-85). Supplements / Grants & tax breaks for Farmers growing corn etc. strictly for Ethanol production. Even though it is reducing Food production, increasing the cost of food, raising the cost of farmland available. While they continue to turn a blind eye to the fact Ethanol, due at least to Deforestation among other reasons, is worsening pollution not helping any what so ever.

Great news. It would be better if more states would allow more refineries. The people who complain the most about the high prices of gasoline are the same one who do not want a refinery in their back yard!

Big deal, did you see where a Chinese Oil Company just surpassed ExxonMobil as the largest in the world? Under Obama we are falling behind the rest of the world in oil production. China has 27 new refineries in the pipeline for 2013-2017 and we will really be in a fix as refining is our only heads up on the world's market. Obama is killing us with his anti-business agenda!

Gotta luv that Republican deregulation. This expansion will do NOTHING for our domestic gas prices. Refineries along the coast are tax exempt export. This expansion will just increase the volume of domestic crude processed and sent out to sea to other countries like Mexico and sur America. Oil companies are shutting down domestic refineries because they say they are losing money. FALSE. They make plenty of money off domestic refineries but thanks to Bush's corrupted tax exemptions and commodities deregulation the oil companies can profit more with the tax exempt export refineries. Hey the Democrats tried to get a regulations bill pass that would lower prices for us consumers but your little Koch backed Tea Party turds in Washington struck it down. So gas up and fork it over.
