Gas prices take 6.7-cent leap

CBC News -- A recent surge in oil prices led Thursday to a big jump in retail gas prices across Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Public Utilities Board allowed retailers to charge as much as 6.7 cents per litre more for all grades of gasoline. Costs vary depending on the grade of gasoline as well as different pricing zones within the province.

Prices are cheapest on the Avalon Peninsula, where a litre of self-serve unleaded gas can now sell for no more than $1.444. Some retailers, though, charge substantially less.

To QuagmireLA, first off, my response was not directed at you, so I don't know why you responded, but let me say this, first off, you dont know fuck all about what goes on up here, you're probably one of those people who thinks we live in igloos and hunt caribou!
For the record, I'm a long time visitor of and admirer of the United States and its people, and I was trying to point out that the tax levels here are not something you would ever want to have, and so you should keep this in mind when you vote! Also the method of governing here varies with each province and level of goverment, very much like in the U.S. Canada is not the same from one end to the other!!
Another point that I was trying to make to the original poster is that this board is not just for the United States, but for here too, so if ya dont like it, walk on down the road!

Yes, this is absolutely ridiculous. World economies are in bad shape, but greedy oil and gas speculators just keep raising prices with their oil and gas futures.

Remember, that's 6.7/liter. That's 25 cents/gallon.

Remember - that's 6.7 cents / liter (in Canada). That's about 26 cents / gal. in the US.

" Why when they say gas takes a 6.7 cent leap, do prices at the pump rise 30 cents? "

- Because of Speedway. When prices go up, they try to regain the profit margin that has been lost due to competition. This only happens in states where Speedway has a large market share.

To nighthawk55: Your government is out of control with taxation powers. Before you fly off the handle at me, I am not a Canadian citizen/voter. Partner you either did it to yourselves or let it happen.
I know this goes against the Canadian grain, but you have 2 choices / bend over and take it or revolt. Historically revolution is foreign to Canadian thinking, maybe you guys outta grow a sst and think on it.
Keep ot up at this rate and you'll be paying $10.00 or more per imp gallon. A first and modest step would to start selling petroleum by the gallon instead of by the liter just to wake the citizenry up.
I know there's not much in the way of a Canadian patriot, but it's time to wake up!!!!!
After this you're on your own / I really don't care about Canada much, but it's a shame.

6.7 cents? That's nothing comparing to CA. Try 22 cents in two days in LA.

At least they're pointing out that California's prices have now arrived in the stratosphere, ad nauseum.
It, ahem, has to be disconcerting when you continually look here to hear about gas prices, when you could verify the prices just with a phone call or drive-by. Maybe, just getting out for some fresh air might work :)

This is annoying as all hell. One day its reported in Gas Buddy that gas prices are dropping and the next day the report is they are going up.

Also - headlines that mislead just piss me off. If the price change is just Newf and Lab, then say so in the headline. Just putting prices there infers it is USA and nationwide!

So, if they exported less and kept the gas at home, would it lower prices?

Oh, that was Canada. Never mind.

Strangely, gasoline prices have dropped where I live to $3.34 for Regular ethanol 87 Octane. Non-ethanol 87 Octane Regular dropped from $3.75 to $3.55. For the past month it has been $3.75 a gallon priced above Premium. It seems this entire market has become unstable all over the world. Everyone is having to make sacrifices and life style changes.

I'm more interested in local pricing, or at least state side pricing. Not sure why I should be concerned with Newfoundland and Labrador pricing.
